3 Quilts By Christmas

I have a goal to finish 3 new quilts by Christmas.  Only 6 week!!  But all three are already in-progress.  Here they are:

Lucy's Crab Shack.  I bought a jellyroll and made a vertical stripes top.  All I did is sew the strips end-to-end (on the diagonal) and then cut it in half and sewed them together.  Then I added up my total inches, and decided how many and how long I would need to get the rectangle I wanted.  Here's a good video from Missouri Star Quilt Co.  I just wanted to make it more planned/painful than her approach.

SWEET by Urban Chicks.  I have an old quilt top, small, that I can quilt, and blocks for another larger quilt top.  I'm not as thrilled as I once was about this fabric.

JOY by Kate Spain.  I bought a jellyroll and I am designing a top that is basically columns of Christmas trees, and each tree is 4 stripes tall.  I have trees sewn and cut, but I need to surround them in white, and I ran out of white.

Queen Quilt

Here is the finished Heather Bailey Quilt, which we are using during the summer time on our bed.  There are matching 20"x20" pillows.  I couldn't believe how easy a quilted pillow sham would be.  The finished quilt measured 92"x94" - a little smaller than I'd hoped, as usual.

The quilting was rather difficult on something so large, and my machine did a poor job.  I was using unfamiliar thread, poor tensioning, or something because I had lots and lots of missed stitches.  The idea was to do small stippling inside every diamond, then a double line, then diamonds, then another double line, then large stippling on the outside (in between the diamonds).  It was very time consuming...I think I'll stick to stippling next time on a quilt this big.

Three Baby Quilts Gifted

This quilt went to my high school friend, Amanda, and her baby girl Lydia.  I made a matching bed skirt and mattress pad, but I didn't have a crib to put them on to take a picture :)  Anyway, I made up the pattern to use my three fat quarters of Riley Blake umbrella fabric almost exactly.  Finished size was 45"x52."

At the moment, I can't remember the name of this line.  These were bright but came together fast and beautifully.  I think I was planning on making about 4 more to have for gifts in the future.  I think the finished size was 36"x42"???

This was a kit that went together SO fast, I would definitely do this design again.  The fabric is aviary by Moda's Three Sisters (I think).  Finished size was 42" square.

Stars Quilt

Okay, I'm inspired to fix my picture problem :)
This is an (upside-down) full-sized quilt that I made up last Christmas.  For details on how and more pictures, see my other sewing blog. I post my non-quilt efforts over there so not to clutter things.

And, since Heidi posted her quilt count, I'd better post mine.  I honestly don't know how she's so prolific with 3x the little kids I've got, but you've gotta admire it!  Let's see... my first year I made quilt tops and didn't finish things.  So let's pretend that didn't happen just to give me a head start :)  That means in 1 1/2 years, I've finished 6 baby quilts, a full and a queen.  And by Christmas, 3 charity quilts that are tied but those don't count.  I have 3 quilt tops of blocks that I won't be turning into quilts very soon BECAUSE.....

...drumroll...

....we're having a girl!!!  So I finally get to pull out all those little girl fabrics I've collected and turn them into things. Yay!

Maxwell is laughing at me, like "give me attention mom!"  so I'll post the other baby quilts (some of which are already on the craft blog) in a couple days.

Let's try again!

Thank you Sarah for trying to post the pictures. Hopefully this time we can see them!

I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE sewing. Mostly quilts-I don't have mad skills like Sarah to make booties, clothes and other things (sewing corners SCARE me!). But hopefully one day, some of her talent will rub off on me!
I started my first quilt with a kit in July of 2006 and the rest is history. To date I have made 34 quilts with 5 more in the works. By the end of the year I will have made 39 quilts in 5 1/2 years!

I will be posting new quilts every couple of days. These are all Pre 2011. Some I don't have pictures of (I sent them off before I could get a picture). But I'll post the ones I have!

This is one I made with my sister Julie. It looks pieced but it is actually a panel that I quilted to make it look pieced. The back is chocolate minky-ohhh minky! But was actually a quilting night nightmare (quilting minky on my machine and trying to quilt details). Needless to say, it took me about a year before I could look at it again!

I found this kit on clearance and it went together REALLY fast. I LOVE kits!

This is what started it all! I bought this kit and made this for Luke when he was born.
I made this for Claire when she was born. It fabric beautiful and I loved the appliqued flowers.

Sarah's First Quilt Finished

I made a checkerboard of hourglass blocks and fuzzy-cut or solid blocks. Because it's made of flannel, it is very warm and bulky. I had it tied for me so that my first quilt didn't required quilting. Finished size is 60" by 45".

Heather Bailey Quilt Top

I think the pink polka dot helps tame the busy Heather Baily Freshcut fabric and pull everything together nicely!
